… tomatoes.

I love tomatoes:  fresh from the vine, oven roasted, made into chutney.
I even like shop bought tomatoey stuff (a bit of a ketchup kid in my time) but I’m more discerning these days about what sort of tomato fakery I pour over my food!   Since falling pregnant I haven’t been able to eat tomatoes so I’ve had to stand by and sigh as G works his way through the lovely sweet tomatoes from the allotment.

I’m only growing cherry tomatoes this year. They’re such a simple ‘no chopping’ option for chutney making; my primary incentive for growing tomatoes at all. The exception are a couple of Tigerella tomato plants saved from my colleagues compost heap. They’re looking pleasingly stripey but most are yet to ripen, except for the single larger red tom in the first photo.
For the first time this year I also experimented with growing tomatoes in a hanging basket. They’ve ripened in about the same time as the allotment grown tomatoes but haven’t fruited as heavily, as was to be expected, due to the shallower depth of soil. Keeping the soil moist is always an issue with hanging baskets and I found removing the basket from the hook and soaking bottom up in a big box of water was both necessary and effective.

No tomatoes for me this year, they all got blight in the bad summer.

My T is therefore for timing, since I possibly could have had a few if my planting out timing were better. Ah well.

I thought I’d finish off with the last 3 letters, I hope you have found mine of interest!

X is for …Xylophone, I’ve always liked the sound and tone. Is this where the name phone came from?

Y is for … Yesterday, one of my favourite Beatle songs, family, old friends, history, experience, memories. It seems like only yesterday.

Z is for …Zeal, I have always endeavoured with ardour and enthusiasm to complete any project I take on with satisfaction to others or for me. As my Dad always used to say ‘one of the best things in life is the power of achievement’. I am thankful for my talents and try to share them when opportunities arise.

well that’s all done and dusted, how many marks do I get ?

We've decided to book the community hall at our local cafe like we did a few years ago. His 3rd birthday cake and jungle themed food will be a hard act to follow and he's chosen Dr Seuss for his theme so goodness knows what sort of cake we'll pull out the bag for this one! #birthdaycake #birthdaypartyfood #nipitinthebudblog #willywonkacake Rather intrigued by these!!!! @Regranned from @marksandspencer - Introducing the avocado you never knew you needed.
