this years sowings … so far

We spent a lovely afternoon at the allotment last weekend.  We now have Charlotte and Gloucester Black Kidney potatoes in and canes up for runner beans and borlotti beans saved from last years harvest.  We’ve planted in ground that’s been covered over for a couple of years so although it’s free of small weeds we’ve had to dig out lots of bramble and tree roots.

Having less time to spend at the allotment leaves you out of sight and out of mind when it comes to offers of spare plants from allotment neighbours.  And adjusting to life with a new baby I completely missed the sowing window for my favourite tomato plants.   So it was just as well my friends’ son was on the ball and had plants to spare.  Yes, that’s how desperate it’s become – accepting the cast offs of a 5 year old!

E was a star and drank in the fresh air for a longer-than-average nap.  Casting my eye around the plot and seeing what we’d achieved in a relatively short amount of time I asked myself why everything before baby took me so long.  How much of my life has been spent faffing about I wondered? (or as my dear Nan would say … fiddle farting about!)

    Your photos are gorgeous, Nic.

What are the beans between the French and Borlotti in the seed tray, please? They’re not ones I’m familiar with.

My gut feeling was right - bedtime stories with our Lumie bed bug was the photo chosen by #rankin for inclusion. Overjoyed to see my beautiful boys in print

I say grew but I actually just forgot about them and they did this all by themselves!
